Our Religious IdentityIn Omnibus Caritas

Classes take time each day to pray and reflect upon our many wonderings, linked to the Wisdoms of the Crossways curriculum. During daily prayer, students are engaged in a variety of different forms of prayer and are involved in creating prayer spaces linked to our Religious dimension.

Liturgy

Liturgy is an important form of prayer in the Catholic tradition and there are a number of opportunities for engagement with liturgy through class masses, whole school masses, special blessings, parish masses and preparations and celebrations of the Sacraments.

Liturgies are held in either our School Chapel, Hall or Sacred Heart Church.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph

We celebrate as central to our story, the visionary agent of change, Saint Mary MacKillop and the order she founded, the Sisters of St Joseph. In 1866, the young Mary MacKillop, together with Fr Julian Tenison Woods, began the Sisters of St Joseph to provide an education for children whose families were poor.

St Joseph's Hindmarsh was established in 1928 as one of the many schools underpinned by the work of Australia's first saint.

Social Justice

Social Justice experiences are at the heart of our Josephite tradition linking to Mary MacKillop's motto of 'never see a need without doing something about it'.

Students are engaged in Social Justice programs that speak to the heart of our vision. As a faith community our students are inspired by love and empowered by learning around social justice to make a difference in our community and beyond.

Charity

As a whole school, students participate in activities to develop awareness of issues of social justice. St Joseph's has an active Mini Vinnies Social Justice Group. Social Justice activities include; Project Compassion Fundraising and Education, St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, working with the St Vincent de Paul Migrant and Refugee Centre and supporting Catholic charities.

Mini Vinnies

Mini Vinnies is a structured group of students and teachers within our community. Their aim is to make a difference to those who are poor, disadvantaged and marginalised.

It provides an environment for young people to be involved in social justice and to meet and discuss with teacher guidance, ways to help others in need within our school and parish community and beyond.
